There is a lot that can be deduced from this reality. Much of Hebrews is centered on encouraging the audience, including each of us, to develop a heart of faith in order to walk in obedience to God. All of our actions have consequences, and if we steward our journey well, committing to faithful obedience, we set up positive consequences in our lives, including eternal fulfillment and glory.

However, those circumstances are no excuse to not faithfully choose the path of righteousness. We are sons of God, co-regents in His Kingdom. We can neglect this salvation by not following the path Jesus has given to us. The author of Hebrews is imploring his audience to stay diligent, to lean into the deep human desire for greatness. But to do so in a way that is real and true.
